Dining Room mini makeover

My husband got some major brownie points when he walked in the door the other day with a big bunch of pink cherry blossom branches for me! He also happened to have 2 new chalkboard erasers (that I'd been searching for since I'd painted the kitchen chalkboard wall!) and a delivery slip for a new stainless steel stove!! I did say *major* brownie points, right? :) It wasn't even my birthday!

I couldn't wait to get these beautiful flowering branches into my mercury glass vase, and onto my dining room table! The beautiful scent is so cheerful and "springy", and don't they just look so gorgeous?

I ordered these $14 dining room chair slipcovers from Walmart.com, but was so disappointed when they arrived because they were beige! Not the white I had imagined. So...off I went to the bleach bottle, and it worked its magic :) They're now a lovely ivory colour!

The two end chairs were a $3 thrift shop purchase and I'm in love! I had originally planned on painting them, but I decided I like them the way they are. I might rough them up a little bit, to give them a more faded look, but I just like how they add a little height to the table.

ps...I am not a fan of this IKEA glass-top table, but until something fabulously wooden comes along, I'm making do :)

This is my BLAH dining room before the mini-makeover....ugh.

  1. Oh the touch of spring makes me CRAVE flowers everywhere! I love flowering branches (kudos to your husband)...they add that touch of delicate to the room! Your dining room is ever so perfect. Can not wait to see what jewel of a table soon graces the room. All you need is some pink lemonade and pie...and don't forget to invite me. :)

  7. I love it! The flowering branches are so pretty with the slipcovers. Great idea to bleach them, the same thing happened to me once with a slipcover I ordered. It seems white slipcovers are hard to find! They turned out beautifully. I can't wait to see the room with the table of your dreams. Have a great day!

  10. i think a grey hutch would look awesome!! i have just completed a cabinet in light grey, but i almost wish it was a little darker. i have yet to bring it inside so not sure if it will seem darker once in, but right now looks white...

  34. hi trace...
thanks for leaving the comment on my post. magnolia trees are amazing. i was outside looking at my garden today and realized that my peonies survived the winter and are starting to come up. i bet you love those too. they are ever so gorgeous.
i did try the amber glass, but i can't decide if they are *just so right* like i thought they would be. it might be because i had that other handle in for so long i got used to it. dont know.
might email you a pic and see what you think.
in any case, they are precious and i will use them on SOMETHING!
    love m...xoxo
