I have a huge brocade headboard which I made my self but now the colour does not go with the new decor. What to do? I did not want to have to recover it and besides, I couldn't find black brocade. I saw the tutorial and sat and had a think. How to get over the fabric going stiff. I got some spare fabric out and experimented.
The best of the trials was a tube [about 100ml] of black acrylic artists paint. I thinned it first with some water and then some dish soap. This gave the paint a wonderful consistency which was easy to roll onto the headboard. Sorry I don't have any photos but the result? Smooth, even colour that sank into the fabric leaving the pattern visible.
When dry, the fabric remained soft and pliable, but I did notice there was a little black on my hand when I run it over the fabric.
I gently rubbed the fabric with a clean cloth and it removed any pigment residue.

No way does the fabric look painted, my mother and Niece thought I had just recovered it. Cost? £2.50 [about $4]Joannahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11897595007398710402noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5625083194236709130.post-83240977522389638522013-12-30T14:33:52.355-08:002013-12-30T14:33:52.355-08:00That's extremely cool. Thank you for sharing your thoughts about upholstery. I am glad to stop by your site and know more about upholstery. Keep it up! This is a good read.
In 18th-century London, upholders frequently served as interior decorators responsible for all aspects of a room's decor. These individuals were members of the Worshipful Company of Upholders, whose traditional role, prior to the 18th century, was to provide upholstery and textiles and the fittings for funerals. In the great London furniture-making partnerships of the 18th century, a cabinet-maker usually paired with an upholder: Vile and Cobb, Ince and Mayhew, Chippendale and Rannie or Haig.
Landry Home Decorating is all about Upholstery, Window Treatments, Custom Furniture, Slipcovers, Carpeting, Fabrics, Drapery, Shades, Shutters, and Blinds.
